WHY GO TO AN ORTHODONTIST FOR BRACES TREATMENT?
- All orthodontists have an additional 2-3 years of specialty training after dental school which makes them experts.
- Kids sucking on thumbs, toys, or blankets can cause significant dental problems early on that an orthodontist can identify and correct.
- As kids and teens grow and develop new teeth, molars, and wisdom teeth, the jaws are developing and the orthodontist can identify the perfect time to start treatment.
- Adults seeking orthodontic treatment is more prevalent than ever, and teeth straightening options, whether braces or Invisalign, is available and affordable at any age.

Retainers in Howard County, MD
Once your braces are removed or Invisalign treatment is completed, you’ll move into the retention stage of your treatment. Retainers keep your teeth aligned and maintain a lasting, beautiful smile by holding everything in place. Retainers get old or can wear out with time so be diligent with your retainer and see us for a new one when you need or want it. Ask us about affordable back-up retainers to have on hand for additional peace of mind.
Retention Phase
Maintaining the results you’ve achieved with orthodontic treatment is key to the success of the entire orthodontic process. You’ll be provided with a retainer for the retention phase to help ensure your teeth don’t move from where they’ve been placed with treatment.
What Patients Are Saying
“I would recommend OX Orthodontix® to everyone. The office was amazing and accommodating, and very friendly. A place where I can take my kids. They offered me other things like getting my teeth whitening or doing anything else so that I can do everything here.”
Zoom Whitening

Icon Resin Infiltration (ICON)
Resin Infiltration of White-spot Lesions
Resin infiltration is a minimally invasive treatment for post-ortho white-spot lesions (WSLs) and specific congenital hypocalcified enamel lesions (“hypo” spots).
WSLs are associated with subsurface enamel porosities caused by the demineralization of enamel. These spots often result from poor hygiene and associated plaque, bacteria, and acids.
The Procedure
- one visit
- no “shots” or numbing
- no drilling
- plain pumice is used to clean the teeth
- * total process takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour *
The Benefits
- Much less invasive and less expensive than the alternatives of fillings or veneers
- Can be done sooner than other cosmetic options like veneers (where you have to wait until growth is complete)
- Untreated hypo spots often look worse after bleaching. Hypo spots treated with Icon will whiten similarly to the natural tooth enamel
Does it Work? Does it Last?
Unlike whitening products, Icon resin infiltration is considered a long-term treatment solution. Research shows stability for at least two years. That being said, we have had many patients with stable results for 6+ years.
We offer this treatment to help fade the appearance of white spots that result from poor oral care or were congenitally formed.
We cannot guarantee the spot will disappear altogether, but in most cases, it provides a significant cosmetic improvement in one simple, painless visit.
Common Customer Questions
Typically, patients wear braces around 18-24 months. However, patients can finish in less time with technological advancements such as remote observation and custom braces or if the tooth issues are mild.
Clear braces are an excellent option for people who want to camouflage that they are wearing braces. Another option is Invisalign, the most widely used clear orthodontic aligner. Clear aligners are ideal for people who don’t want to wear braces and prefer something removable that will do the same thing as braces.
Dental Monitoring software tracks your braces or Invisalign progress right from your phone for your orthodontist to evaluate and give real-time feedback on your treatment. Monitoring in this fashion, your orthodontist can also pick up on oral hygiene needs, gum health, or any adjustments that need to be made to your plan. You have peace of mind knowing that your braces or Invisalign treatment are progressing correctly, which helps to reduce the overall time in orthodontic treatment.
The most inexpensive way to clean your retainer is with warm, not hot, water and soap. Make sure to rinse it thoroughly to remove any detergent residue. Avoid using toothpaste that has abrasives and can scratch your retainer. Cleaning tablets and powders are also specifically designed for cleaning and freshening your retainer.
