Dr. Sandra Selnick is one of the talented orthodontists at OX Orthodontix, which provides attentive and individualized orthodontic care to patients in the Ellicott City, Clarksville, and Columbia, MD areas. Dr. Selnick’s patients know that she’s the expert when it comes to Invisalign, braces, and all things orthodontic treatment. However, it may not be as well known that, in addition to being a skilled orthodontist, Dr. Selnick is also a brilliant home gardener!

The Farmers Market at OX Orthodontix

Not only does Dr. Selnick come to OX Orthodontix’s Ellicott City and Clarksville offices to treat patients with the latest and most advanced orthodontic treatments, she also happily and proudly shares the produce she grows in her home garden with those in the offices. Each season Dr. Selnick gardens, OX Orthodontix has its very own farmer’s market.

With over 24 crops and counting, this summer Dr. Selnick has cultivated her best garden ever. Due to a large bounty of crops, the OX Orthodontix staff and our patients have been enjoying her fresh vegetables and herbs.

About Dr. Selnick’s Garden

Once we tasted Dr. Selnick’s amazing produce, we had to find out how she does it. So here are 5 questions we asked Dr. Selnick about her garden and here are her answers.

temp-post-image1. What’s in the garden?

– White and purple pencil eggplant
– Tomatoes
– String beans
– Zucchini, yellow squash, and pumpkin
– Peppers
– Cucumbers
– Okra
– Basil, sage, rosemary, mint, parsley, oregano, thyme, lemongrass, and lavender
– Strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry
– Peanuts

2. Is it organic?

3. Give us one of your amazing recipes using something you’ve grown in your garden.

Roasted Pencil Eggplant

  • Wash and cut pencil eggplant with skin on into quarter inch rounds

  • Sprinkle with kosher salt and fresh pepper

  • Mix with olive oil to thoroughly coat

  • Roast in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes

  • Eat as is or serve with spaghetti sauce

4. What’s the key to a successful garden?

Be sure to plant the young plants with fertilizer and weed regularly, especially when you plant something new. Mulching will help to keep weeds away and hold moisture in the soil. You also should prune and train the plants and do not over water your garden!

5. Are you going to try anything new next year?

I think I over did it this year!
