Our Orthodontists
Dr. Mitra Derakhshan
Dr. Mitra Derakhshan has worked with Invisalign for over 10 years and has demonstrated her expertise with the clear aligner system by being published in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, giving seminars in orthodontics, and lecturing on orthodontic topics worldwide.
Before Dr. Derakhshan joined the OX Orthodontix team, she received her dental degree (DDS) at the University of Michigan and her master’s degree (MS) and Certificate in Orthodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Outside of the office, Dr. Derakhshan enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, exploring the outdoors, and watching a romantic comedy movie every once in a while.
Dr. Sandra Selnick
Dr. Sandra Selnick is dedicated to staying on the cutting edge of innovative orthodontic treatment to provide the best possible treatment results for her patients. Dr. Selnick takes pride in “creating beautiful smiles for all ages” using the latest advancements in orthodontic technology.
As the daughter of a pediatric dentist and a pediatrician, Dr. Selnick was bound to work as a medical professional too! She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) from the University of Miami before earning her doctoral degree in dentistry (DDS) from the University of Maryland where she graduated with special recognition from the American Association of Orthodontists. After completing a hospital-based General Practice Residency with the VA Medical Center in Baltimore, Dr. Selnick’s interest in orthodontics led her back to the University of Maryland for three years of specialty training resulting in a Certificate in Orthodontics. She concurrently pursued her research in orthodontic computer analysis, earning a Master of Science Degree (MS) in Oral Biology.
In previous positions, Dr. Selnick was in private practice and worked as a staff orthodontist at Children’s Hospital at Washington Hospital Center. She is leader and innovator using Invisalign to treat patients since its introduction in 1997.
Dr. Selnick is also dedicated to giving back to her community and her strong ties in the Howard County area are a source of pride in her professional and private life. When she is not in the office, Dr. Selnick is active with her son, who is a swimmer attending the Naval Academy and her daughter, enjoying her college experience at University of Maryland.
Dr. Kathleen McKeon
Dr. Kathleen McKeon has been excited about orthodontics since she was a young girl growing up in Catonsville, MD. It has been her lifelong dream to be able to share that passion and to make happier and healthier smiles in her hometown. Dr. McKeon graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) from the University of South Carolina before returning to Baltimore and earning her doctoral degree in dentistry (DDS) from the University of Maryland. While in dental school she was recognized by the American Association of Orthodontists and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. Her interest in orthodontics then led her to the University of Pittsburgh where she received a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Dental Science degree (MDS) after three years of specialty training. In her free time, Dr. McKeon is a certified yoga instructor that enjoys spending time with friends and family (including her two cats!), staying active, and enjoying good food and wine. Dr. McKeon is excited to be back home again, to serve the community she grew up in, and to be a part of the OX Orthodontix team!
